Air India was destined for Newark from New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, when its cabin crew members spotted a bat at one of its components, disrupting the flight.

According to Hindustan Times, the plane left Delhi airport at 2:20am, and the little creature was sighted barely 30 minutes when the plane was in the air.

AI-105 DEL-EWR returned back to base (Delhi) after departure due to this local standby emergency was declared. On arrival, it was learnt that a bat was seen inside the cabin by crew members. Wildlife staff were called to catch and remove the bat from the cabin. The aircraft landed safely at around 3:55 am. Later flight was declared Aircraft on Ground,” Air India stated.

Bird strike

In 2018, a Mombasa-bound Kenya Airways (KQ) plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after a bird strike interfered with the engine.

The Embraer KQ604 jet had taken off from JKIA at around 10:11am when the incident happened.

A bird strike reportedly caused an engine glitch that forced the pilot to return to JKIA for repair.
