    Domestic air passenger traffic drops sharply in May

    New Delhi: Domestic air passenger traffic fell sharply in May following a surge in covid-19 infections across the country and resultant travel curbs imposed by states. About 2.12 million passengers traveled by air in May, compared with 5.72 million passengers in April, and 7.83 million passengers in March, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).     Domestic air traffic 63% lower in May than April: DGCA

    Domestic air passenger traffic dropped significantly in May due to the second COVID-19 wave that severely impacted the aviation sector. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) around 21.15 lakh domestic passengers travelled by air in May, which is 63 per cent lower than April when the sector had clocked 57.25 lakh passengers. The regulator said on Thursday that 78.22 lakh people travelled within the country by air in March. IndiGo had the lions’ share among all airlines.     MUMBAI: While Indian vaccination program continues its slow march, what with less than 4% of the population fully vaccinated, airlines have finally gone full throttle to vaccinate their flying staff.     Vistara operates flight with fully vaccinated pilots, cabin crew

    Karnataka: IndiGo flight suffers tyre burst while landing in Hubli, all passengers safe

    IndiGo said on Tuesday, June 15, that a tyre on an aircraft from Kannur ruptured while landing at Hubli Airport in Karnataka on Monday. It added that all passengers and staff members are safe, no casualties reported.  The plane is presently undergoing maintenance in Hubli, according to the airline.     Amid the second wave of coronavirus in India, an association of Indian pilots approached the Bombay High Court seeking schemes for adequate compensation for pilots who got infected or died due to COVID-19, priority in vaccination against the disease, and insurance coverage for those working during the pandemic.
