MAS pilots IATA Travel Pass on selected flights

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines will be among the first airlines in the world to start a trial of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass, a mobile app for digital health certification.

MAS said in preparation of its own Digital Travel Health Pass on the Malaysia Airlines mobile app, the IATA trial is being conducted on flights out of Kuala Lumpur to London until May 27.

“Selected passengers on MH4 that departed KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) at 9.05am this morning were the first to have access to the new application, bringing all the information passengers need to know in order to travel in one, simple, easy-to-navigate app.

“At this stage, only passengers with mobile phones running the iOS operating system are able to take part in the pilot.

“The pilot is the next step in Malaysia Airlines’ journey to reintroduce safe and secure travel, working alongside government, border authorities, fellow airlines and other stakeholders to make the dream a reality, ” it said in a statement yesterday.

The trial, it added, would also be able to properly shape the final version of the airline’s Digital Travel Health Pass, taking into account technical and cultural factors to make it more user-friendly and approachable for passengers.

Malaysia Airlines group chief marketing and customer experience officer Lau Yin May said after over a year of lockdowns and limited travel, the airline would be at the forefront of the travel industry’s long-awaited recovery.

The IATA Travel Pass acts as a centralised hub for all the necessary information and will allow passengers to create a digital ID comprising their profile photo coupled with an “ePassport” from their passport information.

Passengers can input the details of their travels onto the app and receive up-to-date information on the travel requirements of their journey.
