Travel stocks took flight on Tuesday – sending the local sharemarket to a six-week high – as news filtered through that Australians will soon be allowed to fly quarantine-free to New Zealand.

The ASX rose 0.8 per cent to close at 6885.9 following confirmation of the new Trans-Tasman travel bubble, a third straight gain and the best finish since February 18.

Buy now, pay later rivals Afterpay and Zip Co were also strong in the first session after the Easter break, while the iron ore giants shone brightly on a strong outlook for the bulk metal.
