New restrictions for France explained – including what the amber plus lists actually involves

Fully vaccinated travellers returning to England and Wales from amber list countries are exempt from quarantine from Monday 19 July (although testing requirements remain mandatory).

However, on Friday the Government announced that this rule would not apply to France because of concerns over the spread of the Beta variant, which was first identified in South Africa.

The ad-hoc new category created by this decision has been dubbed the “amber plus” list. It has been slammed by travel experts for sending the summer holiday plans of tens of thousands of tourists into chaos.
